BOMBING VICTIMS MEMORIAL SERVICE HELD

Under the auspices of Palilula Municipality, City of Nis and Citizen Association "Old Niš" - that takes care of tradition and heritage of Nis, the memorial service was held on Sunday traditionally on the Old cemetery of Niš "Gorica" for ​​remembering the victims of the bombing of Nis of April 8 1941.

On this occasion, after a memorial service, in the presence of the priests, the representatives of the Association "Old Niš", the delegation of Palilula Municipality, the Association of the descendants of warriors, laid flowers at the monument and evoke memories of the bombing of Nis 71 years ago. PhD Igor Novakovic Palilula Municipal president, said that for four years Palilula Municipality has had the activities on the design of this "memorial complex" under the Gorica hill. After the works on the Central and Eastern gate we are finishing the works on the fence and the West gate. This is our civilization duty for our fellow citizens and our historical heritage.

In the destructive march of fascist Germany, during the first years of the Second World War, in Nis ruins after the bombing of the civilian population, about 400 people were killed and more than 500 were more or less severely wounded. All of them were buried in Nis Old cemetery in one common grave.
